The dam at Cuyamaca is the second oldest in California still in use, and was completed in 1888. It was built to supply drinking water to the city of San Diego. It was originally piped down to San Diego in wooden flumes. It continues to be part of the municipal water supply system for San Diego.

In the mid 1960s the Lake Cuyamaca Recreation and Park District was formed. Through various projects over time, it has created a more permanent water supply infrastructure and new recreation features at the reservoir.

  1. 1000% recommend! GORGEOUS view and home, and amazing price for what you get! Perfect for large groups with tons of comfortable sleeping options and wrap around porch for star gazing (location is perfection)! Easy check-in and check-out! John is also very easy to reach and was an incredible host! We will be back for sure!! The best getaway vacation spot for relaxation 🙂

  2. 7 of my friends and I stayed here for a little friend getaway. John’s place was so beautiful and incredibly spacious. All of the beds were very big and equally comfortable! No one felt like they missed out on the “good” bed because they were all very nice, ;). We felt so lucky because John was able to direct us to a really neat place, Green Valley Falls! We swam in pools of water all day and we never would have known about it if he didn’t offer his suggestions. The deck overlooking the mountains of Julian was the best part each night & morning. We were so grateful to get a chance to meet John in person as we needed assistance with a few things. He was quick to offer his help and a fast communicator. We especially loved hearing about his families story–it made us extra thankful for our stay. Thank you John & family, we will remember your home!
